This brooch is gold-toned, hand-enamelled and encrusted with bohemian crystals. It is based on the Viola tricolour- Commonly know as heartsease, this charming wildflower was the forerunner of the garden pansy. It exhibits delightful variations in petal colouring and patterning in the many flowers carried throughout the summer. This pendant is inspired by the artwork of Caroline Maria Applebee (c.1799-1854)- Very little is known about Miss Applebee, like so many women artists of the time. She was an extremely talented amateur artist whose works went unpublished. Her paintings feature a large range of plants, including many more rare and exotic varieties of the day that would only survive under glass.
Measurements
