This small marigold brooch has brightly coloured hand-enamelled details, is gold-toned and adorned with bohemian crystals to create a beautiful lifelike floral brooch. This brooch is based on the Tagetes patula- The French marigold is a member of the daisy family (Asteraceae) and originates in South Africa. The entire plant is harvested for its scent. In perfumes, it is mixed with sandalwood to produce the fragrance ‘attar genda’. This brooch is inspired by a painting by Caroline Maria Applebee (c.1799-1854)- Very little is known about Miss Applebee, like so many female artists of the time. She was an extremely talented amateur artist whose works went unpublished. Her paintings feature a large range of plants and flowers, including many rare and exotic varieties of the day that would only survive under glass.
This gold-toned brooch features a locking safety catch for secure fastening.
